This page explains what data this site collects, why, and what choices visitors have.
What is collected
This site is a static reference collection. It does not require registration, it has no user accounts, no comment facility, no contact form and no newsletter. There is nothing to sign up to and no personal data is requested anywhere on it.
Standard web server logs are kept for the operation and security of the service. A request to any page records the requesting IP address, the date and time, the address requested, the HTTP response code, the number of bytes sent, and the browser’s user-agent string. These records exist to diagnose faults and to identify abusive traffic. They are retained for a limited period and then deleted.
Cookies
This site sets no tracking cookies, no advertising cookies and no analytics cookies. There is no cookie consent banner because there is nothing to consent to.
A session cookie may be set if someone signs in to administer the site. That applies to the site’s own editors, not to readers.
Third parties
No advertising networks, no analytics services, no social media tracking pixels and no content-delivery networks are used. Typefaces and all scripts are served from this domain, so loading a page here does not send a request to any third party.
Some pages link to external websites, for example on the links to the future page. Following such a link takes the visitor to a site governed by its own privacy policy, over which this site has no control and no visibility.
Legal basis and your rights
Server logs are processed on the basis of legitimate interest in operating and securing the service, under Article 6(1)(f) of the General Data Protection Regulation. No profiling is carried out and no automated decisions are made about visitors.
Anyone whose data may appear in those logs has the right to request access to it, to request its erasure or restriction, and to object to its processing. Because logs are indexed by IP address and timestamp rather than by identity, a request needs to include enough detail to locate the relevant entries. A complaint can also be made to a national data protection authority.
Content on this site
This site documents a publication from 2008 and quotes named contributors in their professional capacities, with their positions as stated at the time. Changes
Any material change to this policy will be reflected on this page. Because the site collects no personal data beyond server logs, changes are expected to be rare.
